RIFTS AND SCHISMS IN CIVILIZATION

The war in Ukraine is one of many symptoms spread across the world, all of them pointing to the same psychological situation, namely, a disturbance in the mental or psychic atmosphere in and between America with its allies and the East. “We are on our guard against contagious diseases of the body,” writes Jung, “but we are exasperatingly careless when it comes to the even more dangerous collective diseases of the mind.” The leadership of the European Union and NATO are the main activists in favour of the continuation and escalation of the war in Ukraine. Symptomatic problems form a tangled knot, and it is hardly possible to single out one particular problem and treat it independently of the others. However, there are certain sides to such problems that have a definite psychological aspect, bringing them within the scope of Analytical Psychology to put forward a certain point of view.

Discussion questions will be presented by Sumi Gous on a rotational basis to one of our Jungian scholars, namely, Elmarie Malek, Linda Stoebel or Frederik Huysamen.
