THE FOUR DECISION-MAKING FUNCTIONS

Carl Jung grappled for a considerable time with the difficult problem of decision-making. Conflict and disagreement between individuals formed an integral part of his investigation. Gradually and over the course of a several years Jung discovered the four different decision-making orientations and how they work. They relate directly to the four functions of consciousness that enable us to differentiate whatever content we hold consciously in our minds. They are intended to serve us in the first place in constructing images of the objective world outside. 

The specific conscious function that dominates one’s own individual and unique mental disposition, determines the way in which we approach problems and make decisions.  Jung differentiated and classified the characteristics of each function and coined them thinking, feeling, sensation and intuition
